Fall 2016 Classes

Arts Education is a vital part of the mission of Park Playhouse. We firmly believe that developing a more culturally-engaged student body provides significant on-going benefit to our entire region. We offer a variety of programs, ranging from dance classes to workshops with Broadway professionals to summer-based camp programs. While we revel in working with students to build new skills for the theatre, and take pride in seeing our graduates go on to great success in the Broadway and film communities, we are equally concerned with providing young people with the confidence and comfort that they will need to succeed in any public speaking or professional environment. The performing arts build self-confidence and an ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others: all skills that are absolutely essential in life, school and business.

Dance Classes

Park Playhouse’s resident choreographer, Ashley-Simone Kirchner, offers a full series of dance classes in a variety of styles to students at a range of skill levels. Classes run on Thursday evenings from October 6 through December 15 along the following schedule:

Tap Dance – Thursday @ 5:30pm (one-hour class)
Ballet - Thursday @ 6:30pm (one-hour class)
Musical Theatre Dance – Thursday @ 7:30pm (one-hour class)

Whether you are an intermediate or an advanced student, our classes in tap, ballet, musical theatre dance and jazz will help develop your skills for application in the theatre. All classes held at The Palace Theatre in Albany, NY.

Performing Artists’ Workshop

Being on stage can be intimidating for a newcomer. From learning theatrical terms, to finding your singing voice, to conquering stage fright, the most important thing for beginners and intermediate-level students is to jump in and build their confidence and comfortability. With a team of professional instructors, our staff is ideal to help young students gain a fundamental understanding of the theatrical process. Classes are held Wednesdays, October 5 through December 7 from 5:30 to 7:00pm at the Palace Theatre.

ACting I & II

This new class series is dedicated to advancing students’ skills in the art of acting. While many local students have private voice teachers or participate in dance studios, it is our experience that very few students have gained formal instruction in acting technique. We firmly believe that this is essential for success in theatre, including success as a dancer or vocalist. Classes run Tuesday evenings from October 4 through December 6. Acting I is intended for students ages 11-14 and Acting II is intended for students ages 15 to 18; both for students who have participated in plays or musicals before. Classes are held Tuesdays at 6:00pm and 7:00pm respectively at The Palace Theatre.
